Tie Dye Art

The process of tie-dye typically consists of folding, twisting, pleating, or crumpling fabric or a garment and binding with string or rubber bands, followed by application of dye(s).

There is no wrong way of doing tie dye. Unleash your creativity and play with different techniques (feel free to make one of your own) and colors. In tie dye, the final result largely depends upon the combination and number of colors used as much as it depends on the folding or tying technique.

Different materials and fabrics will yield different results. It quite a tricky job to ever achieve two identical results even after following the same procedure.

One can enhance a tie dye tshirt, bag, cap etc using embellishments or patches to add an extra dose of funk.

Some popular tie dye techniques are:

  • Spiral
  • Concentric circles
  • Chevron
  • Scrunch
  • Reverse/Bleach
  • Shibori
  • Kaleidoscope
  • Stripes
  • Sunburst
  • Bull’s eye
  • Ombre
  • Resist/Wax
